Everyday Dal Tadka
Comforting yellow dal finished with a sizzling garlic-cumin tadka. Weeknight gold.
Ingredients
- β’ 1 cup toor dal (split pigeon peas)
- β’ 1 tomato, chopped
- β’ 1 tsp turmeric
- β’ 2 tbsp ghee
- β’ 1 tsp cumin seeds
- β’ 4 garlic cloves, sliced
- β’ 2 dried red chillies
- β’ Salt, to taste
Method
- 1 Rinse the dal and pressure-cook with turmeric, tomato and 3 cups water until soft.
- 2 Whisk smooth, add salt and loosen with a little hot water.
- 3 Heat ghee, crackle the cumin, then fry the garlic and chillies until golden.
- 4 Pour the tadka over the dal, cover for a minute, and serve with rice or roti.
